Well, golfers – it’s golf season! Or, it will be soon. Hopefully. But while we wait patiently for the season to begin here in Alberta, let’s catch up a bit.

The 2023 golf season ended off pretty okay for me. I didn’t reach my goal of having a single-digit handicap index – hell, I added 0.2 strokes onto the damn thing. But, for the first time since 2019, I shot a round in the 70s. Not just once, but three times. I mean, the overall golf game hasn’t improved much, I guess, judging by my handicap factor. However, I’m shooting more rounds in the 70s, which feels like a pretty big win for me.

Some of the changes I made to my golf game ended up paying off. I was smarter in target selection off the tee and ended up putting myself in much better spots for my second shot. But those second shots… They’re still not great. I hope to utilize the new MyStrategy feature from ShotScope that they added this offseason to optimize shot selection from the tee.

But the season ended on a sour note for me. At the end of the season, I went to see my doctor and got some unfortunate news. Apparently, I have golfer’s elbow as well as a torn tendon. This was news to me since I had not had any sort of pain or anything. So, I did as I was told and avoided golfing all winter until I finally got in to see the specialist, only to be told that I could have been hitting the simulator this whole time. So I’ve gone months without swinging a golf club (besides a few chips off the divot board) while waiting on this specialist.

In the meantime, while I sit and wait for courses to open, I’ve been re-painting my clubs. Things have turned out pretty well so far and I’ll be sure to share a write-up once I’ve finished up and have some good before-and-after photos. Until those dry up, I’ll have to get my fix playing EA PGA Tour.
